Tony Scott’s Most Awesome Films In Recent Memory
One director who quietly flies under the radar is Tony Scott. He is quite different in his filmmaking from his better-known brother, Ridley Scott. Tony Scott is not the type of director to get nominated for Academy Award. He is the type of director who will put out awesome action movies that do well at the box office.
But which films are his best? The following movies are my top five favorites directed by Tony Scott.
The first movie I will mention on this list is definitely one of my favorites, and it is none other than True Romance. This cult classic was written by none other than Quentin Tarantino and features an all star cast including Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Christian Slater and Brad Pitt, to name a few.
Man On Fire with Denzel Washington is another great film. Denzel is as good as it gets as the hero who plays by his own rules in this film. Dakota Fanning also is great as the supporting actress, although I always thought that swimming was an odd sport choice for her.
Dj Vu is another great Tony Scott directed movie. This film stars Denzel Washington (surprise, surprise) and takes place in one of the greatest American cities there is, New Orleans. If you like films involving time travel, this one is worth seeing.
Another fantastic film of Tony Scott’s is Days Of Thunder. This movie was released in 1990, but in my opinion has the 1980s written all over it. Regardless, this is a great racing movie starring Tom Cruise.
Top Gun definitely makes the cut for me. Few movies have as much nostalgic value as Top Gun has for many middle aged men. I don’t know why there have been so few air force based films since this one. Maybe it is because it is tough to beat Top Gun.
Hopefully there is one or more films from Tony Scott on this list which you have not yet seen.
In addition to film, this writer also frequently pens articles about interior lights and the polypropylene rug.
