If Sandra Bullock movies share an underlying theme, it is reality. She is not blindingly attractive, but she does have that freshness that is often described as the girl-next-door. Her strength is in believability while doing a job that is unlikely. Although some of the movies might be considered a little frothy, she has picked up some recognition as a serious actress in the Academy Award nod for the 2009 film Blind Side.

Although she is known for adding comedic elements to her roles, it is not the in-your-face type humor that can overwhelm a story line. She portrays characters who can see humor in even a bad situation. The Proposal moving from 2009 is an example. She’s a strong career woman placed in completely foreign surroundings who manages to keep her positive outlook.

A desire to be in a comedy genre film that isn’t predictable comedy placed Miss Bullock in Miss Congeniality 2. This movie didn’t follow the path of many happily-ever-after stories, but had unique character development of Regina King. Unlike many of this type of movie there were some terrific fight scenes.

In a different genre and on the more serious side is the movie Crash featuring Los Angeles neighborhood of ethnically diverse people. Racial intolerance is looked at individually as lives collide. She considers Crash to be one of her best films. Of the more than thirty films that she has completed, she named Crash as her best experience in movie making.

The movie Blind Side provides the first Academy Award nomination for Miss Bullock. She plays the outspoken and wealthy suburbanite who takes on the responsibility of a homeless kid and turns both their lives in a new direction. The film is based on the true story of Michael Oher, who went from homeless to the NFL.

With no loss of popularity amongst her fans, Sandra Bullock movies have managed to span two decades. Her best known genre is the romantic comedy but her creative talents have found other outlets with recognition of her dramatic abilities. Two of three movies released in 2009 were well received by the critics.
