Kiteboarding Holidays in Cuba around Cayo Island region of Cayo Guillermo

Cuba is a archipelago of islands based in the northern Caribbean the location where the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf coast of florida as well as the Atlantic Ocean all merge together with each other. Cuba, exactly like its next door neighbours, features crystal-clear ocean, soft sand bright white shoreline along with amazing palm trees. When you consider Cuba, kiteboarding possibly isn’t first thing that leaps into your mind. It’s a spot having a Communist past, which has kept the country quiet but strong and unbelievably beautiful. Being just south with the Bahamas and west with the Dominican Republic, Cuba does not have any shortage of windy months or spots to look kiteboarding!
You can either book a fairly cheap to medium-priced all-inclusive resort, or head out on your own, moving from resort to resort. Their isn’t anywhere to rent or repair kiteboarding gear, though, so make sure you bring your repair kit and all your kites! . Canadian and European kiteboarders have been traveling to Cuba for years. With quick and low-cost flights, getting there is simple and mostly stress-free.
Scooters really are a popular mode of transportation and therefore are super cheap to rent during the day. It’s my usual way to enjoy veering from the beaten path, however with Cuba as being a Communist country it’s very hard to complete (not impossible though) with all the major cities being further from the beaches and resorts and many of the roads not named it’s never as easy as just following GPS. I came to kiteboard though! And so i did lots of exploring down and up the coast, sneaking into other resorts, riding at their beaches and grabbing some drinks and food in the restaurants. I quickly would perform a down winder to my place searching for secret spots on the way. With respect to the tide you can really find some sick places to ride. The best spot out of this trip was directly behind this unique place among the Cayos, which offered up probably the most butter-flat water I’ve ever kited on. Two friends and myself had the location all to ourselves. There isn’t any shortage of those hidden spots after some effort for adventure!
My trip to Cuba was centered on the Cayo Island section of Cayo Guillermo that is the main Ciego de Avila province. As we reached main international airport within the mainland, we hopped on the 45 minute ride with this 1950′s old-school hippie bus down just one dirt road headed for the ocean. You need to visit several checkpoints and cross a bridge onto the area. The Cubans aren’t allowed over the bridge to the resort/tourist area unless they’re working. It’s crazy how these folks live so near to a paradise they cannot fully enjoy. That said the Cubans are a few of the happiest as well as generally helpful folks I’ve ever found.
