Interested In Hip Hop Production?
If you love hip hop and want to be a part of its creation, but you do not have any particular talent for rapping or singing, you should experiment with hip hop production tactics. The producer deals with all of the non-vocal aspects of producing a hip hop track. Being a producer takes a different type of talent. You have to have a good ear for how the elements fit together, and have a vision for what will sound good as a finished product. Here are some of the different aspects of hip hop that a producer works with:
Beats. In hip hop, the term “beat” means not only the percussion, but the entire instrumental track. The percussive element is called the “drum beat”. Sometimes the beat is completely original, and sometimes it uses sampling. Sampling refers to the process of incorporating parts of an existing song into a new track. Even when this is done, they are ideally transformed into something unique and different from the original track.
A studio is the place where the producer does most of their work. A studio has lots of equipment. Here are some of the things you might find in a studio>
Synthesizers, which are machines that simulate different instrumental sounds. Synthesizers are helpful when the budget for production is low, as they save the cost of hiring live musicians. This is part of the reason they initially became a part of hip hop production. Now they are used in both low and high budget production. Some hip hop does use live instrumentation, but synthesizers are used more commonly and have become their own art form.
A studio will, of course, also have recording equipment. Hip hop producers generally use multi-track recorders. In recent years, digital audio workstations have become common. Their use is somewhat controversial, since they have many built in elements that allow for a lack of energy and creativity on the producer’s part.
Vocal recording uses either condenser microphones or dynamic microphones. Dynamic microphones are more affordable and more durable. However, condenser microphones allow for a wider range and generally produce higher quality vocal tracks.
If these aspects interest you, and you find yourself wanting to learn more and to experiment with them, then hip hop production might be the career for you!
All the best hip hop producers and music making teams can get great hip hop drum kits with no delay. These drum kits are sample and drum packs from every single one of the best hip hop producers so you will always get Kanye West drums in the pack.
