Hip Hop Beats – You Can Make Them From Pre-existing Samples
Most producers make hip hop beats using pre-existing samples. There are two things you can do – you can use entire music segments or chop them up. Those who do the latter, use the sounds of the chopped segment as raw sounds over which they record their own.
There are several methods used to make hip hop beats. Every beat maker has a way of doing it to achieve the sound he wants. You can EQ the samples and the frequencies out and then you can change the pitch. Here we are going to discuss about mixing various different samples to make hip hop beats. But then you have to keep in mind that the samples which are cleared, authorized or are licensed can be used when you want to make your mixes. It’s good to know that you don’t have to be rich to do that.
The first thing you have to do is clean up the sounds. If you get an erratic sound on your first attempt, don’t worry, it’s natural. There might also be pops or clicks at random places where you have chopped the segments. Now this can basically be solved when you fade in and you fade out of the piece. Plus if you really want your hip hop beat making to be detailed then you can simply zoom in on the waveform which is done by suing a free program called Audacity. You can delete the weird clicks out of your sample.
The timing of your beat should be right as it will affect the pitch that you want. Sounds are usually stretched to fit a BPM but it is usual that what you get when you do this is a distorted sound. If this happens, correct it by putting the pitch back to its original form before you lowered or raised it. If you want, you can use a program that doesn’t change the pitch as its level is stretched.
You also need to make sure that when you make own hip hop beats you get the samples cleared properly. This will assure that you will not confront any problems if later you intend to expand your beat-making production. One move you can make is to contact the respective company whose pre-existing samples you want to use. By so doing, you are protecting yourself especially if you don’t have much money or don’t have a publisher.
