International Cinema Festival of India

If you were like me and lucky enough to grow up in the 80′s, you will remember those years with great. Some of modern cinema’s greatest movies came out then too.

So many of these great movies haven’t been seen by those who are around the age of 23 or younger. This is a crying shame as these films deserve to be enjoyed by the younger generation too.

Many of these movies were way ahead of their time, and forerunners of many of the themes you will find in today’s movies.

There are 5 movies from the 80′s that I never tire of watching and are staples in my DVD collection. If you haven’t yet seen them there is nothing to stop you.

You may know Elisabeth Shue from her recent work, but in the 1980′s she was known as the star of Adventures in Babysitting. Set on the streets of Chicago, this is a cult movie these days and has stood the test of time.

If you enjoy a good sports comedy, then Major League will suit you down to the ground. It was a big hit and two sequels followed.

Possibly one of the most famous movies of the decade is the funny and yet thought provoking Breakfast Club. An ensemble cast of the day’s best known young stars combine to create a true modern classic. This really is a must see.

Although a major star now, in the 1980′s Matthew Broderick was just starting out, and his first major role was in the extremely funny Ferris Bueller’s day off. The tale of a kid, his girlfriend and buddy skipping school for a day in the big city was a huge hit at the time and is still a great laugh.

If action is your thing, I only have two words to say to you, Die Hard. Yes, it’s hard to believe that the original was made so many years ago. It still stands proudly amongst other more recent films and wins hands down for sheer entertainment value. You must have been living on Mars if you haven’t seen this, and if you have just returned from the Red Planet, watch it today!
