Denzel Washington’s Greatest Performances In Recent Memory
There are few actors in this day and age that have as impressive a resume as the great Denzel Washington. There is a lot to like about this incredibly talented actor, and it certainly goes beyond his charm. Denzel manages to play a number of different types of roles, and at this point in time, seems to have the pick of the litter when it comes to choosing his scripts.
This article will highlight some of Denzel Washington’s best roles throughout his career.
Probably Denzel’s most historically significant role was in the film Glory, in which he played a volunteer soldier in the Union Army. This Civil War film is a must see for anyone looking to learn more about the time period.
Another fantastic film starring Denzel Washington is Philadelphia, a movie about a gay defendant who hires a homophobic lawyer, played by none other than Denzel. This movie also stars Tom Hanks.
If you have never seen 1995′s Crimson Tide, then you are missing out big time. This movie stars Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, James Gandolfini and Viggo Mortenson amongst others in a thriller based around a nuclear submarine.
In Man On Fire, Denzel Washington stars as John W. Creasy, a bodyguard for an American girl who goes on an absolute tear through the underworld of Mexico when she gets kidnapped. Loosely based on a true story, this film also stars the incredibly talented Dakota Fanning and is directed by long time Denzel Washington collaborator Tony Scott.
One other film that I feel the need to mention is the most family friendly movie on this list, and that is Remember The Titans. Based around the true story of the first racially integrated high school football team in the South, this movie is a must see.
As it stands, this is my Denzel Washington best of list. But as the years go on, the man continues to churn out quality films and as such, I may have to reevaluate after a few years.
