Be Aware–Avoid Talent Agency Scams
Everyone wants to be famous. Mostly people tend to get blinded by the dream of being in the limelight. Millions of people flock film studios, talent agencies, and modeling agencies to get their share of fame. Because of this, scammers abound in the market for fresh, gullible people. This article has several tips to advise you on how to spot the scammers from the legit companies.
Basically there are no upfront fees when a manager wants to see you. You are giving your talents so that you will gain money, therefore, never trust someone coming from a talent agency who is asking for payments or fees because this is not a modeling class after all.
There is a big difference between a modeling class and a talent agency. Modeling classes get their profits from students, while talent agencies get their profits from companies. The talent agencies are there to sponsor and promote you as a part of their future talents.
Keep in mind that awareness and knowledge will be towards your advantage. Read contracts carefully, especially the fine print, because sometimes, fake or fly-by-night modeling agencies will try to scam you through the papers. Make sure you read the contract thoroughly. Check out their website if they have one, and do a decent research on the authenticity of a talent agency.
However, it is not generalized that scammers are not capable of going that far. They too, are capable of creating a website just to get some money from you. Ask colleagues; ask your mentors if they are legit. Since mentors know a lot better than someone whos just started as becoming a model or talent.
Getting an acting coach and enrolling yourself in a modeling school is also a big factor, because this gives you credibility; therefore, if you have what it takes, talent agencies will actually come to get you. There are also times that scammers might ask for fees for the plane fare, like they might say that you guys are going to New York and theyll be needing funds to get there. If this is the case, then beware.
Actually if youre getting scammed you will feel that everything looks smooth and easy. They will just say that you should give them this certain amount and they will handle everything. Thats right, theyre scammers.
As you can see on reality TV shows, its so hard to become a model or talent. As you can see in Americas Next Top Model or American Idol, you can see how hard it is to get to the top. Greasing your way just to make things easier for you may do you more harm than good. Awareness and the right knowledge will help you avoid getting scammed.
